Types of Curtain Headings

The top of the curtain is referred to as a curtain heading. It is attached to a rod or track and forms the top hem of a curtain. The heading of a curtain will determine the style of the curtain and the amount of fabric fullness needed.

There are many curtain types, from which SP Interior Solutions specializes in S-fold, Eyelet, Pencil Pleat, Pinch Pleat and Box Pleat curtains.

Eyelet: Large metal rings are punched into the heading and slipped onto a rod. The rings come in many colours to compliment the rod or the fabric. This heading needs adjusting when opening or closing. It is not suitable for fine or loose weave fabrics that are moved regularly as the fabric will eventually pull away from the rings.

Pencil Pleat: This is a deeper and more formal heading suitable for all types of unlined curtains, lined cotton and sheers and some medium-weight fabrics for use with a track or rod.  Spaced pencil pleat tape is ideal for heavier fabrics.

Pinch Pleat: These curtains are suitable for formal lined curtains of all lengths for use on a track or rod. It has a deep stiffened heading that’s either straight or fanned. They are ideal for all types of cottons, and medium to heavyweight fabrics.

Box Pleat: These pleats give a semi-formal appearance. It can be used for all types of curtains and sheers hung from a track or rod. They are especially good for thicker, lined curtains.
